Where we stay in Paris

Last updated August 2026

When I visit Paris, I have two main hotels: the Renaissance Paris Arc de Triomphe and the Hyatt Regency Paris Étoile. This page covers how I choose between them and what is nearby. For a points splurge, see the Park Hyatt review.

How I choose between them

As a Hyatt Globalist and a Marriott Titanium member, I get a few amenities at these hotels that are not always offered at others. The two are pretty equal to me, so when I choose, I mainly look at cost, and if I need extra stays with one brand over the other, I stay there. The cost is normally about the same, so it comes down to where I would rather put the stay.

The 1 line

One of the main reasons I stay at these hotels: they are right on line 1 of the Paris Metro. I can go from the Neuilly - Porte Maillot station to Concorde in 8 minutes. Line 1 is automated, meaning no driver, and trains run every 2 to 6 minutes; even if you miss one, another is coming soon. The Arc de Triomphe, Vendôme, the Louvre, and more are all on line 1.

Around the hotels

If you like a quick snack, there is a McDonald's around the corner and a Starbucks in the convention center. If you need a pharmacy, the Grande Pharmacie du Palais des Congrès is open 24/7, and if you are buying as a tourist and spend over 100 euro, you can get it tax free. A popular place for steak and fries is Le Relais de Venise - L'Entrecôte, walking distance from both hotels.

If I am in Paris or Europe for more than 5 days, I do my laundry at Laverie Miele, right around the corner from the hotels, about an 8 minute walk.

Renaissance Paris Arc de Triomphe

This hotel is part of the Marriott family. It is a fairly large hotel, and the rooms are a modest size. As a Titanium member, there really is not much of an upgrade at this hotel; I have once been given a family room, with an extra bed connected to the main room.

A lot of airline employees and tour groups stay at this hotel. But for me, as someone visiting the city, this is a perfect hotel: close to all the amenities and public transportation.

As a Titanium member, I get free breakfast for me plus one guest. The breakfast is good, with a broad offering of food; even if you want something simple, they have it. They do have busy periods, and if you go during that time, expect a short wait for a table.

This hotel used to have a lounge. The last time I stayed, they had closed the lounge and instead offered a fixed credit at their cafe to use during the day. It was great for picking up snacks to take with us, and I actually prefer it to a lounge.

This hotel is in the same area as the Renaissance. As a Globalist member, I am assigned a higher floor; I have not been given a larger room or a suite. Depending on when I go and when I arrive, they usually offer an Eiffel Tower view room. I have been here many times, so when I arrive early, I usually just ask for the first available room so I can shower and rest up from the long plane ride.

As a Globalist member, I get free breakfast as well as access to the club lounge. Breakfast can be either in the 34th floor club lounge or at the restaurant on the main floor. The main floor will have more options, but I prefer the club lounge; the bar area opens up during morning breakfast hours with a nice view overlooking the Eiffel Tower.

The club lounge is also open during the day and at night. I find it busy, and I might go in for a snack, but for the most part I do not stay long, especially at night when it is full.
